I looked up the word 'create' on thesaurus.com:
To cause to come into being as something unique that would not naturally evolve or that is not made by ordinary processes.
I read over the synonyms - build, conceive, construct, design, devise, forge, form, invent, make, shape, start. I let the words sink in and paid attention to the emotion they evoked - happiness, hopefulness, peace.
I read over the antonyms - break, conclude, demolish, deny, destroy, dismantle, end, finish, refuse, ruin, stop. The emotion they evoked was sadness, despair, emptiness.
Some might say that I pay a little too much attention to my emotions but I would argue that they are my best and truest guides. I judge if something is right or wrong for me by the way it makes me feel. If what I'm doing, what I'm hearing, who I'm around, feels wrong - I make a different choice.
I'm happiest interacting with creative people. Their energy, hopefulness, attitude, attracts me. I want to be around others who are building up, not tearing down.
I believe that each of us has a deep inner calling to be creative. A need that shouldn't be ignored. Whether your chosen media is a plot of land, a lump of clay, a linen canvas, or a blank page- bring something uniquely you into the world. Create.
